A Glance At Digital Marketing

Did you know that the average person spends less than 15 seconds reading a webpage when doing a search query? So much for all that perfectly-optimized sales copy where you describe absolutely everything you do in loving detail! Guess what-no one’s reading it. They’re skimming. Are you skimming now? probably, and this is something that most good digital marketing agencies know.

A couple months ago I adding some different website traffic analysis software for my digital marketing agency so I could tell how my clients search engine placement was going and to see what the popular pages were. I about fell over dead when I realized how quickly people click in and out, especially because some were doing some pay-per-click advertising that costs them over $10 per click! Being a detail-oriented person myself, I had to completely re-think some of those campaigns.

To be the most effective, your website copy should be written for 3 types of people searching on the interent. If you make these few minor tweaks, you’ll have most of your bases covered!

Tweak Number 1: Write for People Who Scan: Most people searching the internet are page scanners. To speak to them, employ a combination strategy for easy readability:

  •  Use effective headlines (large and small)
  •  Be sure to bold text on important words
  •  Include text boxes with small amounts of sales copy
  •  Utilize photos with word captions (and don’t forget alt text for SEO)
  •  Give them bulleted lists-such as this 5 point list

If your landing page is scan-friendly, a browser will be able to understand the main benefits of what your business does, without ever having to read the tiny text.

Tweak Number 2: Write for Detailed Oriented People: Now that you’ve grabbed someone’s attention with your headlines, then you want to deepen their interest with the small text. Don’t put very much detail on your home page. Put the detailed information a level or two deep, in the places where someone is looking for specific information. Remember, you want to break up the tiny text with lots of breaks for those page scanners.

Tweak Number 3: Write for the search engines: That is right, I said write for those Google and Bing, the companies that determine your search engine ranking. One of the best ways to improve your search engine ranking is to include lots of keywords in your writing. (Don’t be obnoxious and type your keywords in a nonsense fashion. That can get you banned or penalized from search listings.) But, DO use your relevant keywords on every page, in the headlines and in the details.

Here’s one more trick you might not know: if you use bold font for your keywords, it can help your results. Detailed articles & newsletters (with your keywords) work well too. Go ahead and build your site deep with rich keyword related content.

When you strike a balance of all three types of website sales copy, you should notice better results. When I focused on keywords, Google bumped me up to the 2nd page for “small business coach.” When I revamped my home page, my newsletter subscription rate tripled. When I started archiving my newsletter articles, I noticed that I got more traffic from people searching for those specific topics. Try some of these small changes, and watch what happens.

Understanding Digital Marketing

Digital Marketing is a concept of business marketing, both to consumers (B2C) and to other businesses (B2B), via the internet. But to explore and understand Googles black box algorithm is not simple. The main reason is that the Google is forever evolving and is subjected to waves of changes.

With new advances in SEO technology, online businesses are able to leverage on it and add to their marketing approach and content.

Way back in the 1990s, digital marketing took off. It was a brand new concept, and caution had been thrown to the wind in all the hype. Companies did not take into consideration that the same variables of marketing in other forms of media should logically be applied to internet marketing as well. Their failure to study markets and create sound strategies led to the fall of many so-called dot-coms in the end of 2000. The survivors  after the dot.com bomb began to look toward time-tested logic in marketing for direction, and the result was massive growth.

Through the now-careful approach of businesses and marketers alike, targeted advertising on the web has brought forth great success. Virtually any market you may wish to break into can be tapped on the internet, locally or even globally. Many digital marketing firms offer the marketing solutions a business needs to get their products out to consumers, while a small firm may wish to handle their marketing on their own and can find lower-cost solutions for their goals as well.

A major free resource for digital marketing is the search engines like Google and Bing. Another excellent form of marketing is the eMail marketing feature that is available on the internet. But bear in mind that the business will only achieve success when you have built a good relationship with the customer.
