Passover Seder
This year Passover coincided with Spring Break, so the kids and I were in Florida for the first night of this Jewish holiday. My mom’s community holds a large seder in their clubhouse with over 130 attendees. My mom is on the committee that plans the event, now in its 7th year, and she is responsible for working with the chef to pick the dishes for the dinner. She shares her recipes with him and he figures out how expand them from serving 8 to serving 130.
Traditionally, the youngest child asks the four questions, which are answered throughout the ceremonial service before dinner, but since they were the only two kids in attendance, they divided the questions between them. Watch the short video to see what a great job they did.

Part of the service involves putting a drop of wine on the plate for each of the plagues brought upon the Egyptians, and here are my 10 drops on the saucer.

The food was fabulous, and included turkey with cranberry sauce, brisket, potato kugel, tsimmis and broccoli.

And here’s a picture of Peter and Grace with my mom and stepdad, Bob.
Peeps in Paradise

The Fort Myers News-Press, the local paper here in Southwest Florida, has created a user-generated content contest where they are asking readers to re-use their marshmallow peeps from Easter by photographing them in familiar locations around the area. The deadline is April 14. The winners will be announced April 15 and will receive $100 gift certificates. They could have had more fun in creating a contest page and providing some inspiration with sample photos. I cannot currently find where the photo gallery for this contest lives, so hopefully I can find it after the contest.
First Night in Florida
Here are Peter and Grace on our first night in Florida.
Peter and Grace in the Pool
Upon arriving in Florida, the first thing Peter and Grace did after lunch was go to the pool.
New York City Friends
I am in New York City catching up with some old friends. Friends that I haven’t seen since 1980. We met for brunch today at the Fig&Olive and took the above picture after the meal. I will be posting lots more, but just wanted to get this picture up now.
Peter the Boy Scout
Tonight Peter crossed over from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts. The troop he joined loans each boy his neckerchief. A boy can keep it if he achieves the rank of Eagle Scout. If he leaves the troop or turns 18 without earning Eagle, he must give the neckerchief back. Peter likes that the neckerchiefs are Carolina blue and white, since the troop is sponsored by a church next to UNC.
Grace and the Monkey Blanket
Grace got a new blanket. She’s a big fan of monkeys, so she loved it. This is Julius, a character created by Paul Frank, complete with cartoons. Look for the blanket to appear in future photos of Sleeping Grace.
Baby and the King Cake
Tuesday at work we had a Mardi Gras celebration before our morning agency meeting. This is a picture of the King Cake with the baby.
Social Media Breakfast
Tuesday was Social Media Breakfast Raleigh. We gathered at Panera Bread for an informal gathering to talk about a variety of social media topics. We began the meeting with my discussion about using Twitter to promote an event with Raleigh Twestival as an example. Here’s my blog post my remarks were based on and here’s a video clip from Kipp Bodnar showing a bit of it. We also talked about using Twitter for work and for personal use, and how old media doesn’t get Twitter and just pushes their feed out via Twitter. This is not community engagement.
It was great to see some friends and meet some more. Always good to put faces with avatars.
