Twitter Alert: Your Lunch is on the Move

Thanks to this post from Dave Delaney, I was pointed to this article from Serious Eats about street vendors using Twitter to announce their locations, specials and other information important to their mobile customers. The South is not generally known for their proliferation of street vendors, so the only listing is for OnlyBurger in Durham, and it was added when suggested in the comments. They are a perfect example of the kind of mobile business... [Read More...]

Amazon Remembers Peter

An iphone application that I downloaded but haven’t used was the Amazon.com app. I recently opened it up and took a look at it. I was especially interested in the Amazon Remembers feature. You take pictures, using your iphone, of things you would like to remember, through the application. And if Amazon offers a similar product, they will let you know. One of the things I like to do when I test applications or services is to do things with them... [Read More...]

Trouble with Twitter

We are now just over three weeks past the great Twitter race to 1 million followers, and six of the top ten Twitterers have over 1 million followers, according to Twitterholic. When you add up the followers of the top ten, you get 11.6 million. And how many friends do they have? 1.1 million. It is even more dramatic when you remove Barack and Britney, leaving 8 of the top ten Twitterers with just about 1000 followers. This is not engagement. This... [Read More...]

How to Add a Closing Credit Link in Vimeo Pro

Many people use YouTube for their videos because it generates lots of views, but it also generates lots of spam comments. The video service I use for my videos is Vimeo because the overall quality of video is better and there is no spam. And since I am embedding my videos on my site and promoting them to my followers on Twitter and Facebook, I don’t worry that the Vimeo community is smaller. It is also more creative and less trashy than YouTube. As... [Read More...]

Fail Post

I was on a Skype call with @waynesutton tonight and we started talking about Fail, a common social media term when something doesn’t quick go right. The best example is the Twitter Fail Whale. When the popular social network goes down, a graphic appears on screen showing a whale carried by birds. Anyway, I suggested to Wayne that he hold up his Fail sign. Why does he have a Fail sign? He does a video podcast with Kipp Bodnar called Talk Social... [Read More...]

101 Uses for Twitter

The following list was created by Jeff Cohen, who blogs at DigitalPapercuts.com, and Kipp Bodnar, who blogs at DigitalCapitalism.com, and yes, it is completely coincidental that both blogs have digital as the first word. Since Twitter is still on the top of everyone’s mind, we thought it would be a good time to document 101 uses for Twitter. Since this list was meant to be both fun and educational, we want you to share it with your readers and... [Read More...]

Social Media is About Community

Social media has changed the way all marketers, including B2B marketers, think about marketing. Everywhere they turn they are bombarded with messages about social media, and more specifically Twitter, Facebook, blogs, iPhone apps. How does a classically-trained Director of Marketing stop the currently marketing plan while the organization learns about social media? They don’t stop what they are doing, but the learning part is easy. Continue... [Read More...]

Guest Star on Episode of Freezerburns

I have followed the web review show Freezerburns for a while, and was excited when Greg asked me to be a guest on the show. Well, I actually asked him if I could be guest on the show, but he did finally agree. Since it was to be part of guest review week, I’m thinking he had this idea in his head already. He reviews frozen food in a video format, and has been doing it since last fall. Here’s my interview with him if you want some background... [Read More...]

Flutter: The Future of NanoBlogging

If Twitter is overwhelming to you, you might want to consider Flutter, which allows users to share even shorter messages. An iphone app even messages your network automatically, saving you the trouble of sharing your every move. Hat tip to the Take Me to Your Leader blog for pointing me to this video from SlateV.  Read More →

Twitter for your Mom: Explaining the Value of this Social Network

I spend a lot of time explaining Twitter to people and the value they can get out of this one social network. And this relates to personal use of Twitter and business use of Twitter. Everyone can get something out of Twitter, they just need to have an approach that works for them. So today Oprah joined Twitter in a highly publicized event that celebrated Ashton Kutcher reaching 1 million followers before CNN. That has no bearing on this post other... [Read More...]
