Triangle Tech Week Wrap-Up
This past week was Triangle Tech Week (search #tritech), where we had social media or technology events every day this week in the Triangle region (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill) of North Carolina. It was a long week, and considering that me and my OurHashtag partners planned several of them, I have been resting and recovering today. The following tweet from @theRab lists all the events. He worked very hard to get six events listed in 140 characters.... [Read More...]
8 Ways B2B Social Media is Like a Beach Vacation
As we move through the heart of the summer and our minds and families turn to vacation, there are some interesting comparisons that can be made between B2B social media and a beach vacation. I write this post with sand on my feet, fish in my belly and a light sunburn on my shoulders, so there should be no question about my inspiration. Continue reading on SocialMediaB2B.com Read More →
With Birthdays Come Great Responsibility
In the old days, like back in 2007, birthdays came and went with little online fanfare. Sure, you got phone calls and voice mails that needed to be returned. You might even have gotten some email birthday wishes that needed to be replied to. But the main celebration revolved around real life friends and getting together. Today, and in fact, it really is today for me, you must monitor your large social networks for birthday wishes. I am connected with... [Read More...]
My Smiling Avatar
Almost 2 years ago I signed up for Twitter and needed a picture for my avatar. I took the picture on the left, made it black and white, cropped it and went with it. I am not a huge fan of posed pictures, and when people smile in pictures I prefer it to be natural, rather than posed. So I used a picture where I was not smiling. It was fine at the time. I did not want to be smiling. As I joined other social networks, I used the same picture. I understand... [Read More...]
hesketh.com is Hiring
Raleigh-based strategic web shop, hesketh.com, is hiring an online strategist and a blog post with an embedded video seems like a much better way to apply for this type of job, rather than a boring cover letter and resume. Don’t worry, Mom, I sent them an email with a resume. too. Here are some links to things I mentioned: Triangle Tweetup Recent community building event with 250 attendees. Raleigh Twestival Local version of worldwide event... [Read More...]
Ignite Raleigh Update from Me and Wayne
I am one of the co-organizers of a community-based event called IgniteRaleigh and today we opened up topic submissions and voting for your favorite topics. Wayne and I shot a video on his new iPhone 3Gs wrapping up this first day of topics. I refer to my North Carolina Barbecue topic, which you can vote for here. If I don’t get enough votes, I don’t get to present. The top ten topics with the most votes get presented at the event on August... [Read More...]
Are B2B Companies Ready for the Real Time Web?
Many B2B marketers and pr professionals have heard about the real time web, and are looking to learn more about how to incorporate it into the communications mix. It continues to be one of the hottest topics of discussion around the social web water cooler, but has little meaning outside of this community. Real time web is what Twitter does well. It is what Facebook is trying to do. And it is what Google does not do well at all, and it is why rumors... [Read More...]

Triangle Social Media Club: Listening and Engaging with Social Media
Last week’s Social Media Club featured a discussion about using tools to monitor conversations about yourself, your company or your brand on the social web. Listening is the first step of any social media campaign. It is also known as conversation tracking or reputation management. Every day your customers prospects are using online forums, social networks, blogs, chat rooms and leaving comments across various platforms. While using these services... [Read More...]
Business Blogging Best Practices
There has been lots of talk lately that micro-blogging, using sites like Twitter, has taken the place of blogging and blogs are just no longer relevant. Not only is there still a place for blogs, but it is a perfect way for companies to begin to understanding social media and begin to engage with their customers and prospects. We recently wrote about the four-year old Boeing blog, which by many measures is a successful blog, so this seems like a perfect... [Read More...]
