Your Tire’s All Flat and Junk

There’s a new Geico commercial with a talking pothole. It is completely ridiculous. It is not really offensive, but the pothole has the voice of a southern woman. The voice is somewhat stereotypical, and reminds me of what Designing Women would sound like if that show were made today.
Here’s a link if it doesn’t show above Watch on YouTube

Do you think it’s surprising how positive the comments were on YouTube? I’m betting they aren’t from the south.
I am surprised by all the positive comments. I did struggle to describe what I thought about this spot, because I am not offended, but maybe I should be. I do know that I don’t like it, though.
Why in the heck would this be offensive? Because of a southern accent? It doesn’t say anything negative at all about southern people, just uses a southern accent. People need to quit looking for things to be offended by, jeez. how stupid and paranoid are you?
I agree with Lou, I am southern, and I love this commercial it cracks me up everytime I see it. Like it or not Southern people do sound that way. There is nothing at all offensive about this commercial.
I guess what I struggled with is not that the voice is Southern, but that it is so vapid. I know lots of people think this is hilarious, but I just think it is a bit ridiculous. I said I wasn’t offended by it, I just couldn’t describe what I didn’t like about it. Upon further reflection, it really is the attitude of the voice, not the accent.
why does she say “and junk” it sounds like a stupid blonde talking..
lol @ Jeffrey, you just need something to bitch about and junk. the commercial is funny! plus its not like you have the best attitude to be talking about attitudes. lawl. ironic isnt it?
-pothole
I luv this commerical. You just don’t have a sense of humor.
I think your comment is funny. Does that count? Glad you love the commercial. It’s just not my style. Thanks for stopping by.
I think its hilarious. You guys need to loosen up
I love the newest geico commerical I just want to know whose voice it is??? Does anyone have the answer???
I am from the south originally….and while the pothole has the southern accent, the first thought that comes to my mind is Britney Spears. Southern, blonde, AND dumb as a…well…pothole. It makes me laugh every time.
Some people are just prone to wander the earth and point at everything and yell “prejudice!!!”
They think everything that comes from everyone’s mouth is prejudiced in some way.
Grumpy sad people.
The commercial is freaking’ funny and will be a classic for years to come, just like the “where’s the beef” commercials. Were those commercials making fun of old people? No, they were just funny. And so is this.
we think this commercial is hilarious!!!! we have all memorized it in the office!!!!!!!!
I AM from the South! LA to be exact (Lower Alabama). I am not the least bit offended! We LOVE the commercial and in fact, my 5 year old daughter has it memorized!! It is the funniest thing you have ever heard!!
Relax everyone! It’s ONLY a commercial. Actually, the woman’s voice sounds to me like Emily Proctor who plays a law enforcement agent on CSI: Miami. Anyway, like I said, it’s just a commercial.
Just had to chime in…
It cracks me up too, or else why would I have Googled it to find out what people are saying about it.
Ya know, to be honest, I never even thought about the fact that the accent is Southern. What struck me is that she’s obviously a Bimbo (not meant offensively) who has different values than, well, many of us. Lots of hilarious movies have been made with banter like hers. She’s youngish, could be late teens early 20′s, definately part of the in crowd. Not hyper intelligent but a fairly active mind. Perhaps a tad self-centered, would like to be helpful but doesn’t know how to portray any true sympathy. The Southern accent isn’t intended to offend, but just to add flavor. If I knew this young lady socially, I would likely find her very entertaining and could probably be friendly with her. My circles would love listening to her, and laughing WITH her.
So……… Well, bye!
Here’s another southerner that is crackin up over it. My first thought was that it was the voice of Jamie Presley from “my name is earl” but alas, it’s not. Even so, her character on “Earl” is a dead ringer for the pothole, isn’t she?
I love her accent! I’m from Texas – we have a Texas drawl and a southern twang – what could be better? The commercial is just a total crack up and I have heard and said “and junk” at the end of sentences all my life. It encompasses a great amount of “junk”!
As an aside, I recently competed in a cake challenge with two girls from Louisiana and a girl from Michigan. The producers got the biggest kick out of our Texas/Louisiana accents and thought they were just terrific. Yes, we say bohhlll instead of boy-al (boil) and often yella instead of Yellow – but nothing sounds sweeter than a southern accent unless it is a Texas drawl….rock on Pothole!
I think it sounds like Reese Witherspoon- and I LOVE IT!
best commercial since the little girl’s brother got sucked into the Pepsi bottle
The Tire Commercial is the BEST!!!
Lighten up and enjoy……
I’m just relieved the pothole wasn’t from California.
it’s a COMMERCIAL, for crying out loud…put on the big boy drawers and get over it! or would you rather chug on over to namby-pamby land?
OMG I Love this commercial! I’m originally from California, but moved to Arkansas for a long while! My family in Cali make fun of my southern twang! I think its hysterical when they try to sound like me! I also say “and junk” a lot!!! Now I’m in Texas and they think I have a Southern Bell accent! It’s adorable according to them! I love the accent and the commercial! Let people talk it just shows their ignorance!!!
