How Great is the Taste?
One of the things I buy on occasion is Dannon drinkable yogurt. A couple months ago, the package proclaimed, “Great New Taste!” in bright yellow starburst. Most consumer products must modify their packaging on a regular basis so shoppers will notice it. Cereal boxes are probably the ones modifying most often, but many others do also.
I just bought this yogurt again and the yellow starburst said, “Great Original Taste is Back!”
Echoblogging
A term that describes when two or more people blog about the same event. This not a large public event, but a small event that may not involve anyone other than the bloggers. Sometimes echoblogging can be friendly, and the echobloggers provide links to each others posts, but other times it can be competitive. They see who can post first, or who has the better pictures, or even, on a rare occasion, who can be more insightful.
Grace’s Skating Party
Grace had her 7th Birthday Party at a local ice skating rink. She had a blast.

Grace cackles as the song ends. She might smell like a monkey
Weekend Sports
Another up and down weekend in our family’s sports franchises:
Friday Night Baseball
Grace’s team won and now has a record of 1-1
Blue Rocks 14 Avalanche 9
The team was very excited with their first win. Grace hit the ball and nearly outran it to first, but was thrown out. She nearly made it.
Saturday Morning Football
Peter’s team just couldn’t get it together and lost. Record:(2-1)
East Chatham #1 20 Carrboro 0
On the bright side, Peter played tight end and was lined up on the offensive line. He kept his man occupied long enough for the runner to pass through the hole in the line. He needs to get bigger, or tougher, or faster.
Firefly
I recently borrowed (and watched) the DVDs of the short-lived series Firefly and the follow-up movie, Serenity. This is something that I missed when it aired, but that is no surprise. I guess I have been out the mainstream, tv, pop culture, underground loop.
This is a great show that combines science fiction, westerns, ensemble dramas, action and Chinese curse words. Check out the DVDs on Amazon.
This Season’s Article about Youth Football
from the Chapel Hill News:
Now that University of North Carolina football is rebuilding itself in the image of a national powerhouse under the leadership of new head coach Butch Davis, the popularity of youth football is on the rise. All six of the local rec teams are looking to post winning records in Central Piedmont Youth Football League play this year, facing off against such daunting eastern division competition as Bethesda, Orange County, Siler City, Chapel Hill, both East and West Chatham, and Downtown Durham Athletic Association (DDAA) squads.
Chapel Hill and Carrboro field teams with players ranging from 5- to 12-year-olds bent on high school ball within a few years.
continue to the rest of the article including this quote from Coach Holman: “We’ve got Peter (Cohen), and Sam (Blobe) is another big time linebacker, and he’ll be back with us next year.”

Entertaining Beginnings
Peter had the assignment to re-write this Boring Beginning in different styles: One sunny day Jack decided to go fishing at the lake.
Action:
Jack was dashing toward the dock. He was sunburned and stung by bees, but he didn’t care. All he wanted to do was go fishing.
Dialog or Excitement:
“Come on!” Jack called to his parents. He was already sitting in the bright red rental boat. “Let’s go!” he yelled again. They were going to go fishing.
Thought or Question:
“When will we catch one?” Jack pouted. He saw his mad reflection on the water and made it a little better. And then he saw it! The big fish!
Sound:
Swish, splash! The oars splashed through the indigo lake. Jack was sitting behind his mom and dad. “Hey!” Jack’s voice came from underneath his fishing hat, which he was wearing to block the sun. “I like this.”
Blogger Play
From the Blogger Blog:
Shortly after Blogger launched photo uploading two years ago, one of our engineers whipped up a web page that would show us the pictures that were being uploaded in real time. The result was fun, often beautiful, but above all, compelling. We couldn’t stop watching.Over the years we’ve kept this photo scroller as part of the Blogger offices, on a monitor or projector, as an interesting (distracting?) slideshow, and a reminder of the diversity and vivaciousness of Blogger blogs. The fame of the scroller spread within Google, until one day we were asked, “so, when are you launching this?”
“Um…,” we replied. But we knew a good idea when we heard one. We got our UI people to come up with buttons and fadey effects and we got our engineers to make the whole thing fast and robust. A bit of work later, and now we can share it with all of you:
http://play.blogger.com/Blogger Play will show you a never-ending stream of images that were just uploaded to public Blogger blogs. You can click the image to be taken directly to the blog post it was uploaded to, or click “show info” to see an overlay with the post title, a snippet of the body, and some profile information about the blogger who uploaded it. We also wrote a Blogger Play FAQ with more information.
